So the 5 elements are applied not only to every physical thing in the world, but also to the Colors, Shapes, Directions, Seasons and Sounds,Years, Months, Days, Hours, Minutes and Seconds of the Chinese Calendar.

Yin & Yang

File:Yin and Yang.svgThe Yin-Yang symbol represents the ancient Chinese understanding of how things work. The outer circle represents “everything”, while the black and white shapes within the circle represent the interaction of two energies, called “yin” (black) and “yang” (white), which cause everything to happen.
They are not completely black or white, just as things in life are not completely black or white, and they cannot exist without each other. There is a Yin in Yang and a Yang in Yin.
Following the course of nature, the ancient Chinese were trying to understand the laws of life and Qi energy that is invisible and cannot be heard - but is omnipresent, creating the life itself.
Yin and Yang are the two poles of this energy, representing the opposites, but yet inseparable. They are constantly in motion, interchanging. Their dynamic relation creates and rules all the life there is. The interaction between Yin and Yang reflects in day and night, positive and negative, active and passive, fast and slow, male and female, hot and cold.
They cannot exist separated from each other. Yin and Yang are the two basic forms of qi energy. Their interaction describes the five energy phases, or put differently, the five primordial elements.
Yin represents the female, weaknesss, darkness, softness, moisture, night-time, even numbers and docile aspects of things.
Yang represents the male, strength, brightness, hardness, dryness, day-time. odd numbers and dominant aspects.
Yin and Yang are continually in the state of flux and always looking for the balance point. One moves, the other responses. Therefore, ancient scholars treated this natural phenomenon as a natural universal law.
If they are out of balance, then the movements are unstable and unpredictable. When a person is in a stable (5 element) environment, he should live peacefully. When a person is in an unpredictable environment, he is easily out of control. A person will feel lucky when everything is under control. A person will feel bad luck when everything is out of control.
If you want to be a lucky person, you have to move to an environment to bring your five elements into balance.
